Virtual Classroom Project

Progress Update - 19 January 2012

The ‘Virtual Classroom Project’ consists of two major areas of activity.

The first of these is connected with the programming aspect of the project and the second is connected with materials development activities.

 

Programming

General Description:

LAMPA and its partners are developing a virtual classroom where learners and teachers can have face-to-face contact in real time over the Internet. To supplement this application, there will be a language lab module that will allow learners to download listening materials and record themselves as they respond to cues. Finally, an electronic notebook/journal module will be added that allows learners to keep records and submit written work to the teacher.

Materials Development

General Description:

LAMPA and its partners are developing learning materials for English language instruction at three levels of communicative competence, Levels A, B and C. Each level consists of 30 units and each unit comprises four lessons or modules. These include a detailed lesson plan to be used in the Virtual Classroom, a set of language lab scripts to be recorded and used by the learner in the Language Lab module, a set of self-study e-learning exercises, and an assessment component.
